Alright, as of now I have yet to really delve into my true musical passion in terms of a genre on my newly created blog. I feel as though enough people at this point in our generation have accepted and welcomed the arrival of EDM along with its many offshoots. Personally my tastes steer toward glitchy/funky and at times dubby music which is why when I stumbled upon GRiZ I flat out lost it.
For those of you who are unaware of the next artist I will be presenting he is a 22 year old Detroit, Michigan native whose actual name is Grant Kwiecinski. GRiZ has the musical underpinnings of predecessors such as Gramatik, Big Gigantic, and Derek Vincent Smith himself, however he continues to separate himself through production of profoundly engaging melodies and masterfully crafted bass. GRiZ even incorporates his lifelong passion of the saxophone into his phenomenally produced rhythms further expanding on his dynamically complicated sound. To see an artist at such a young age attain the broad stylistic range that he has is truly inspirational and rather incredible.
The photo above was taken at Electric Forest in Rothbury Michigan. It encapsulates within in it one of the most amazing live performances I have certainly ever had the luck to witness in my life. A rare collaboration consisting of GRiZ, Gramatik, and Dom Lalli from Big Gigantic….words simply elude me in describing much from the show (which was unannounced) so I will leave you with a youtube link.
So without further adieu, I present to you all GRiZ. Enjoy guys.
-Andrew
P.S : Updated GRiZ song released today at 6 is here and holy sax on sax on bass on sax. GRiZ will simply not stop his trajectory to the top.
